For the first time this season Uttar Pradesh were brought down to earth.

A poor track record on the pitch of the Mohan Meakin ground continued to haunt them with their batting crashing to their fourth lowest in the last 10 years. They were bowled out for 79 in their first innings against Railways.

None of the UP batsmen could show any maturity as veteran seamer Sanjay Bangar (5/20) and speedster KK Upadhyay (4/37) bowled devastating spells to force former champions to follow on.

They were 1/18 in their second innings with makeshift opener Bhuvaneshwar Kumar (12) and Mohammed Kaif (4) struggling in the middle at close of stumps. Railways scored 374 in the first innings. Both Upadhyay and Bangar bowled a teasing line as the home batsmen played unusual shots. Instead of applying themselves, they chose to go for shots and perished.
