Singh, who was in Mumbai for Neo Cricket’s announcement of their cricket coverage for the next six months, will lead Air India (Blue) that also have India captain MS Dhoni, RP Singh and Mohammad Kaif in their ranks.

The 29-year-old Singh led Mumbai Indians in the first three IPL games last year, all in losing causes, and was banned for the rest of the tournament for slapping Kings XI Punjab’s S Sreesanth.

“We, as humans, make a lot of mistakes,” Singh said. “I paid a huge price, not just money-wise but also missed a lot of games. This (leading in the Corporate Trophy) is a huge opportunity and am sure I will receive the help of others. I’d like to go out and play the way I play and like my team to be aggressive.

“The Corporate Trophy is a good tournament that gives a lot of opportunity for youngsters and also help them learn from the experience of the India players. For us, it is good to play a couple before Sri Lanka tour. I am looking forward to it.”

Singh also said that he’d like India to be playing 12-15 Tests in a year. India would end up playing six Tests in the year (three in New Zealand in March-April and three more against Sri Lanka in November-December at home). “Unfortunately, we are playing a lot of ODIs and T20. But whatever we get (Tests), we will knock off the teams not 2-1 but 3-0 so that we can be number one by the end of the season.”
