Delhi Capitals will look to get back to winning ways when they take on Kings XI Punjab in a blockbuster Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in New Delhi on Saturday.
Delhi’s three-match winning streak ended at the hands of Mumbai Indians and now they are up against fourth-placed KXIP, who will jump above DC if they win this clash in the capital.
Let’s now take a look at some important player battles which could decide the outcome of this clash –
Chris Gayle vs Chris Morris
Windies hard-hitter Chris Gayle has been among the runs for KXIP this season and is leading their charge along with KL Rahul at the top. With 352 runs in 8 matches, Gayle is one of the leading run-getters in the IPL but he will find it difficult against his old-nemeis Chris Morris. The southpaw has scored just 40 runs off 34 Morris deliveries in the past and the South Africa has got rid of him three times.
KL Rahul vs Kagiso Rabada
Opener KL Rahul is the second highest run-getter in the tournament with 387 runs in 9 outings. Against Delhi, the-right hander will have to deal with the pace and guile of the current purple cap holder Kagiso Rabada. With 19 wickets in 35 overs, Rabada has been easily the best bowler thus far and expect sparks to fly when the two in-form players come face-to-face in this mouth-watering clash.
Mayank Agarwal vs Amit Mishra
Mayank Agarwal has scored 225 runs in eight matches and he has marshaled the KXIP middle-order well. But for this clash, the right-hander will have to contend with the spin of one of the most experienced bowlers in the competition – Amit Mishra. The leg-spinner became the second bowler to scalp 150 wickets in IPL in his last outing and will look to carry that momentum into this clash. Mishra has dismissed Agarwal twice before in the IPL and has given just 13 runs off 11 deliveries.
Shikhar Dhawan vs R Ashwin
Opener Shikhar Dhawan has been leading Delhi’s charge in the tournament with some fine hitting upfront. Dhawan’s 291 runs in the tournament includes two score over the fifty run mark he will be eying another good show against KXIP. R Ashwin will have to come up with a plan to stop him early in his innings and stats show he had done the same in the past. Dhawan has scored just 63 runs off 76 Ashwin deliveries and has been dismissed twice.
Rishabh Pant vs Mujeeb ur Rahman
The perennially slow wicket of Feroz Shah Kotla means teams will go in with a spin-heavy attack. Mujeeb ur Rahman, who hasn’t hit the heights of last season, will be eager to prove a point against the DC middle-order. He will come up against Rishabh Pant and it will be a mouth-watering encounter between two young guns. Off 11 Mujeeb deliveries, Pant has scored just 17 runs and has been dismissed twice.
