‘Great feeling to have a trophy named after The Universe Boss’: Chris Gayle skips CPL to play in 6XITY

Seasoned cricketer Chris Gayle won't be taking part in the upcoming edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and will rather focus in the new 60-ball matches, called the ‘6IXTY’. Gayle is the brand ambassador of the cricket tournament and the trophy is named after him - The Universe Boss.
An official statement by Gayle read: “I am going for the shorter format this year. I am genuinely excited about the current innovations in the 6IXTY and seeing how they play out. In particular, I am looking forward to the mystery team ball and hitting two sixes in the first 12 balls to unlock a third Power Play over.”
The new 10-over format is more of a batter friendly format. Apart from Gayle, several other Windies internationals are in line to take part in the event, which will be played between August 24 to 28 at Warner Park in St Kitts & Nevis. The 10th edition of the CPL starts two days later on August 30.
Sharing the excitement about the new format, Gayle said: “It is a great feeling to actually have a trophy named after The Universe Boss, something fantastic, and I am really and truly looking forward to it. I am sure people will ask if this is real, a trophy named for Chris Gayle. Yes, it is happening, and I am really happy about it. I am looking forward to all the innovations.”
The tournament will feature six men and three women teams.
