India vs New Zealand Highlights, 1st Test, Day 4: NZ 4/1 at stumps; need 280 runs to win in Kanpur

Solid stand from the two so far. India looked in a spot of bother at 51/5 but Ashwin's early counter-attack did well to take some momentum off New Zealand and steady the Indian innings. The job is far from done, however, as both batters will be aiming to play out this session.

The left-armer finding turn. Ashwin knows only too well about the tricks this pitch can pull off, and plays with a soft bat. Successfully fends off all six deliveries.

Ravichandran Ashwin takes India to three-figure mark with a pull towards deep. 5 runs off Southee's over, as Ashwin had earlier pulled him for a four past midwicket.

Quick start for India in the second session. Shreyas Iyer finds a boundary but it has come off an edge against Tim Southee. Three singles from the over as well as Southee keeps his line near the fourth stump.

Ashwin gets to the bottom of the ball and pushes it fine towards backward point to start India's run-scoring in the second session. 4 off Ravindra's over.

A brilliant session for New Zealand as they have given themselves a chance by clearing up the Indian middle-order. India's senior pros, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane continue to disappoint and India will be pinning their hopes on debutant Shreyas Iyer once again to bail them out. 

Maiden from Ravindra. Iyer and Ashwin defending and rightly so, as we are minutes away from lunch. Another wicket at this point can hurt India badly.

Healthy rotation of strike between the two. Iyer and Ashwin hold key to comeback for India, and even as Ashwin had some shaky moments, this has been a good stand so far.

Another boundary for Ashwin but this comes off the outside edge. No foot movement from the batter as he pushes a fuller-of-a-length delivery a little late. The ball cruises between slips and gully.

Rachin Ravindra replaces Ajaz Patel from the media end. He got a fair amount of turn in the first innings off the odd balls, and will hope to inflict some damage with the cracks widening. 1 off his first over.

A bit of turn for Ajaz in this over as Shreyas Iyer defends successfully on all deliveries.

Southee beats Iyer with a sharp delivery moving away and the batter, after a decent couple of overs, decides to play it safe now. Fends all six deliveries off with a single off the last.

Another good over for India. Ashwin adopting an aggressive approach here; but in all honestly, a poor length and line from Ajaz Patel. The left-armer bowls it wide outside off and short and Ashwin cuts it brilliantly towards third man for his second four of the innings.

Confident shot from the Indian batter and a good over for India. Ashwin begins the over with a straight drive and continues with a healthy rotation of strike. Iyer, then, punishes a poor delivery on leg with a nice flick behind square.

India's lead is only 100 and half-the-side is back in the pavilion. Wriddhiman Saha hasn't come out to bat yet, and it is not confirmed whether he will bat at all. This, for now at least, leaves India with only four wickets remaining.

WOW. This is sensational stuff from Tim Southee. Two wickets in an over! India in all sorts of trouble here. Jadeja departs on a duck.

Southee comes from around the wicket and this is angled back into the left-hander on a fuller than a length. Jadeja completely misses it as the ball clips his pads. Hitting the leg-stump.

Tim Southee takes his 50th wicket against India. Mayank Agarwal departs on 17.

A 100-run lead for India but the side has lost the key wickets of seniors Pujara and Rahane. The onus now on Mayank and debutant Shreyas Iyer to bail India out of a tricky spot.

.. and he almost traps Iyer on his first delivery. Length outside off and Iyer goes fishing, finds a thick outside edge and the ball goes between the wicketkeeper and the second slip. 

First slip in place immediately after the delivery.

A full-toss and Mayank makes the most of it, even if he has to stretch himself and get to the bottom of the ball. The batter lofts it straight over Ajaz Patel's head for a much-needed boundary. Shreyas Iyer, meanwhile, also gets off the mark in the same over.

Another maiden from Jamieson. This is brilliant bowling from the New Zealand pacer. Hasn't been providing much width to operate on, and forcing the batter into defending.

Rahane's poor run continues. Ajaz Patel traps him in front of stumps for 4. 

And the Indian captain's disappointing outing continues. On length and the ball goes past the inside edge and onto the pads. Right in front of middle and leg-stump and Rahane doesn't bother reviewing that.

Testing lengths from Jamieson against Rahane. He did wander off a little in the opening overs, but Jamieson has made a great comeback since dismissing Pujara. The Kiwi quick beats Rahane's outside edge as he finds some movement while going fuller than a length.
