India vs South Africa, 4th T20I Highlights: Centuries from Tilak Varma and Sanju Samson followed by a clinical bowling performance gave India a 135-run win over South Africa in the fourth T20I at the Wanderers in Johannesburg. India have thus won the four-match T20I series 3-1. South Africa were flattened by a stunning assault from Tilak and Samson that took India to a mammoth score of 283/1 batting first. ...Read More
David Miller and Tristan Stubbs soldiered on for South Africa after they lost their first four wickets for just 10 runs until the 12th over, when the former fell to Varun Chakravarthy. Miller had scored 36 in 27 balls. Stubbs fell off the very next ball to Ravi Bishnoi and South Africa's slide continued. They ended up being all out for 148 runs.
South Africa ended the powerplay with a paltry score of 30/4 while chasing a mammoth target of 284 in the fourth T20I against India at the Wanderers. The Proteas lost four wickets for 10 runs in the first three overs after India blasted 283/1 in their 20 overs batting first. Arshdeep Singh got India the breakthrough off just the third ball of the first over and then went on to take two more wickets off back-to-back deliveries in the third.
Tilak Varma and Sanju Samson both scored centuries and their partnership finished unbeaten on 210 off an astonishing 86 balls as India blasted their way to 283/1 in 20 overs in their fourth T20I against South Africa at the Wanderers. Tilak finished unbeaten on 120 off 47 balls while Samson was 109 not out off 56 balls. While Samson hit nine sixes and six fours, Tilak blazed 10 sixes and nine fours.
The pair blasted boundaries for fun against the dazed Proteas and have put India in sight of making a dash at 300 once again. They had got close to breaking that glass ceiling in T20Is in their third match against Bangladesh earlier this year. Tilak followed up his third T20I century by blazing past fifty yet again at the Wanderers with India looking set to topple a few batting records in the fourth T20I against South Africa.
India raced past 160 in less 12 overs and then shot past 200 in just over 14 overs with Sanju Samson and Tilak taking the South African bowlers to the cleaners. The visitors had raced past 100 in less than nine overs with Samson continuing to go big guns after the powerplay. He raced past 50 in just 28 balls as Tilak also joined in on the fun. Samson put up an opening stand of 73 runs off just 35 balls with Abhishek Sharma. The latter fell off the second last ball of the powerplay to Lutho Sipamla having scored 36 in 18 balls. Abhishek took the partnership past 50 with a big six as India's opening stand clicked at long last.
Samson had fallen for ducks in his last two matches but avoided another one in a brilliant first over from Marco Jansen after India captain Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and chose to bat first. Both India and South Africa have gone into this match with unchanged elevens.
India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 4th T20I: Varun Chakravarthy's stellar comeback
India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 4th T20I: Varun Chakravarthy had just two wickets in his first six T20Is and was pretty much made a scapegoat in India's disastrous 2021 T20 World Cup campaign. He was then out of the side for nearly three years before earning a callup for the series against Bangladesh in October this year. Since then, he has taken a whopping 15 wickets in six matches. If that isn't a turnaround, there are no turnarounds.
India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 4th T20I: India back at the venue of their first great win of the century
India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 4th T20I: Misbah-ul-Haq went for a rather inexplicable ramp shot off Joginder Sharma, the ball went straight into the hands of S Sreesanth and India celebrated their first trophy of the MS Dhoni era. That was the 2007 T20 World Cup final and the venue for it was the Bullring.
India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 4th T20I: India at the Wanderers
India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 4th T20I: India began its journey in T20 cricket at the Wanderers. That match, which was played back in 2006, also marked Sachin Tendulkar's only appearance in T20Is. He had scored 10 in 12 balls opening the batting with captain Virender Sehwag. India went on to win that match by six wickets.
India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 4th T20I: Cricket at the Wanderers
India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 4th T20I: The Bullring is among the iconic venues in the sport. The first international match to be played here was a Test match between South Africa and England in December 1956, which the visitors won by 131 runs. The first T20I to be played here was also just the third T20I to be ever played and that was between South Africa and New Zealand in October 2005, way before concepts like the IPL or any other T20 league even existed in imagination. South Africa were all out for 133 despite an 84-run opening stand between captain Graeme Smith and Jacques Kallis. New Zealand chased the target down with five wickets and two overs to spare.
India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 4th T20I: Tilak Varma on his century
India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 4th T20I: Tilak Varma was the central character pretty much in the rather topsy-turvy tale that was the third T20I. "I cannot put my feelings into words," he said. "It was my dream to hit a hundred for the country and I had been waiting for this moment for a long time. Coming back from an injury and hitting a hundred is incredible.
"It [the celebration] was for Surya (captain Suryakumar Yadav), because he gave me this opportunity to bat at No. 3. I had told him that I was going to perform. That's why I pointed towards him."
India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 4th T20I: Aiden Markram's wretched run
India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 4th T20I: It has been a year to forget for the South African captain. Markram has 241 runs in 17 T20Is at an average of 16.06 and a strike rate of 120.50. The last time he scored a half-century in the format was 28 innings ago.
India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 4th T20I: Arshdeep Singh five wickets away from Yuzvendra Chahal
India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 4th T20I: Arshdeep Singh has had quite a yeat in T20 cricket and he is now hunting down the top place in India's highest wicket-takers' list. He needs five more wickets to surpass Yuzvendra Chahal as India's highest wicket-taker in T20Is.
India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 4th T20I: The last time India played in Johannesburg
India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 4th T20I: Suryakumar Yadav smashed 100 in 56 balls and led India to a score of 201/7 on December 14, 2023; the last time India played at the Wanderers. Big scores are a norm here but then South Africa didn't get anything close to something that can be called that. Kuldeep Yadav returned figures of 5/17 and South Africa were all out for a paltry 95 runs.
India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 4th T20I: India's 200 mania
India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 4th T20I: India have officially shed their cautious approach this year in T20Is. This is evidenced by the fact that they have breached the 200 mark eight times - the most by any team in a single year.
India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 4th T20I: What the 'other' Indian team is doing
India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 4th T20I: Well as you may know, the Indian Test team are playing a hush-hush practice game behind black curtains in Perth ahead of the first Test against Australia in the big Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Their batters were under scanner after the New Zealand Test series debacle and well, it isn't a pretty picture so far.
India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 4th T20I: The weather in Jo'burg
India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 4th T20I: There is a threat of rain hanging over this match. It has been raining on and off in the city and there were some showers in the morning as well. More showers are forecast for the evening and so all we can do is hope for the best.
India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 4th T20I: Tilak Varma asks for No.3 and makes the most of it
India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 4th T20I: Captain Suryakumar Yadav said that Tilak had asked to be promoted to No.3 after the second T20I in Gqeberha. He said that he finally told Tilak that he would be batting there on Tuesday night. "You are going to bat at No. 3... Express yourself," he said.
India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 4th T20I: Tilak Varma climbs the century mountain
India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 4th T20I: The story of the third T20I for India was that of Tilak Varma. He missed the Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka tours because of injury. He then didn't get a call up for the Bangladesh T20Is and it had looked like he had fallen off the radar, which is just how fickle your place can be in the Indian team if you are a youngster. Then he was suddenly called up for the South Africa tour and for the third T20I, he was promoted to No.3. He repaid that faith by smashing 107 off 56 balls, thus becoming the youngest Indian to score a T20I century.
India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 4th T20I: Abhishek Sharma finds his groove again
India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 4th T20I: Abhishek Sharma had been under some pressure going into the third T20I, having put together a string of low scores after he burst onto the scene with a century in the second match of his career. However, it all came together once again for him at Centurion as he powered a 107-run stand off just 52 balls with Tilak Varma for the second wicket. Abishek smashed a 25-ball 50 which pretty much set the tone for India to go on to make 219.
India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 4th T20I: Marco Jansen's Centurion blinder
India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 4th T20I: It looked like India had won the third T20I fair and square when Arshdeepm Singh dismissed Heinrich Klaasen in the 18th over. And then came an assault of awesome proportions by Jansen. He went 4, 6, 4, 2, 6, 4 in the penultimate over of the innings and then hit another six second ball of the last to reach his half-century in 16 balls.
India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 4th T20I: Marco Jansen's rich vein of form
India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 4th T20I: Marco Jansen has been the biggest threat for India throughout the series with the ball and, in the case of the third T20I, with the bat. He has picked only three wickets in the three T20Is but his economy of 6.41 is the best for any bowler in the series, something that has often helped others pick wickets thanks to the pressure he built. This is despite India scoring more than 200 in two of the three games. Moreover, he almost pulled off a heist in Centurion that took his tally to 73 runs at a strike rate of 208.57 for the series, making him South Africa's lead scorer.
India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 4th T20I: Heinrich Klaasen's frustration…
India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 4th T20I: South Africa have been a wounded side for a while now, not just because of their disappointments in the T20 World Cup this year. International cricket has been shrinking for them and this ongoing series as well ends with just four T20Is on a Friday. Heinrich Klaasen didn't mince words when talking about the situation.
“We don't play any more five-match series. Our Test team are playing two-Test series, which is ridiculous. How nice would it be if we win on Friday, and Sunday is another game that we're going into at two-all?”
Klaasen said that South Africa would like to play more cricket and longer series against other international sides. “It's disappointing and it doesn't sit well with the players because we want to play more cricket against these guys and other countries. But we always find a way to just play two or three games and it's annoying. Then you see India are playing on Friday in two different sides of the world,” he said.
India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 4th T20I: South Africa's misery in T20Is
India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 4th T20I: South Africa were unbeaten in the T20 World Cup until they met India in the final. However, they have been shambolic either side of that tournament. They can't win this series and even if they draw it, South Africa's winless run in the format from a series perspective will stretch to eight.
India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 4th T20I: 2024, India's best-ever year in T20Is?
India vs South Africa LIVE Score, 4th T20I: India haven't just won the T20 World Cup this year. They have backed it up by winning everything before it and since. This series against South Africa is their fifth bilateral series this year, their sixth competition in T20s overall. They have won all of those series and the T20 World Cup to boot before this and a victory will make it five consecutive bilateral T20I series wins in a row for them. They will also go an entire year without losing a single series or tournament in the tournament, with there being no more T20 series scheduled for the remaining few days of 2024. India have overall won 23 of their 25 T20Is.
By winning the third T20I, they have already made this the 10th consecutive series, bilateral or otherwise, that they have gone unbeaten. Their last series defeat came against the West Indies in August last year.

That is where things stand ahead of this final T20I of what has been a rivetting series at the Wanderers. Stay tuned for more updates!
