India win toss, opt to bowl against Sri Lanka in Dharamsala

As Gavaskar mentions, a tricky decision for both, Rohit Sharma and Dasun Shanaka as the time for toss nears.

“There wasn't much time to prepare the pitch. There's still grass but I don't think it is going to make much difference. The pacers will get some movement. There are also some cracks on the pitch so it will assist the spinners as well. It will be a really tricky decision for both captains at toss,” Gavaskar says in the pitch report.

“India haven't lost a single game since the T20 World Cup. Sri Lanka are very inexperienced and someone has to take responsibility and moreover, has to play more aggressively.”

Star Sports (the official broadcasters) confirm that the toss will be on time for the second T20I.

With Suryakumar Yadav absent for the series due to injury and Virat Kohli being rested, Shreyas Iyer batted at number three and scored a blistering half-century.

"Once I got going, I wanted to play my shots and keep the intent going, just wanted to play my shots. He (Ishan Kishan) wasn't able to time (in the middle overs), was losing patience. I just told him to take his time, look for twos and threes. Our plan was to hit the pockets, initially, that's what we did, and things came out pretty well for us. Coming from Kolkata, this ground had different dimensions," Iyer had said.

The Indian team is eyeing a third-successive T20I series win since Rohit Sharma was named the full-time captain in November.

“The ground towards the boundary is soft due to rain. There was no rain today but the ground was covered when we reached here. When I went to the pitch report, the covers were being removed. I won't be surprised if the game is delayed by 30 minutes," says Sunil Gavaskar.

The Indian players are out on the field to train ahead of the game. Thankfully, there's no rain!

Youngster Ishan Kishan endured a poor outing in the series against West Indies, but returned to run-scoring in style in Lucknow (89 off 56 deliveries).

"You need to talk to your seniors. So it's very helpful when I sit with Rohit bhai (brother) when he comes to my room for conversation. I know that he believes in me, the coach (Rahul Dravid) believes in me and I just go there to perform," said Ishan.

Without a number of their senior players, Sri Lanka were a pale shadow of themselves in the first T20. Captain Dasun Shanaka admitted that the inexperience hurt the visitors in the Lucknow game. 

"We were really poor in all three departments. They batted beautifully, read the game and conditions really well. I could have bowled more. We are without two frontline spinners, Theekshana and Hasaranga. The replacements aren't really experienced." Shanaka had said.

Maheesh Theekshana and Kusal Mendis remain unavailable due to hamstring injuries while Niroshan Dickwella and Dhananjaya de Silva -- already part of the Test squad -- have been added to the T20Is squad as well.

48, 55, 56, 40, 19, 7, 44 - Rohit's scores in the last seven T20Is since assuming the full-time captaincy role.

While the Indian skipper got strong starts, he will be aiming to convert one in the remaining two T20Is.

The weather forecast doesn't look as promising for the game in Dharamsala. Rain is predicted throughout the day but according to accuweather, the weather will remain cloudy in the night with less possibility of showers.

India have played only one T20I at Dharamsala (Against South Africa in 2015). The side had faced a 7-wicket loss in the game. The side was schedued to play another T20I against the same side in 2019; however, it was abandoned due to rain.
