Chennai Super Kings will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in an IPL 2019 match at their home ground at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday. CSK are one win away from sealing a play-off berth while Sunrisers on the other hand, are also looking good with 10 points in 9 matches. The numbers suggest CSK are firm favourites against Sunrisers but the fact that CSK lost their last two matches and SRH did the exact opposite, is certain to spice-up the contest.
Apart from the fight for a play-off spot, The CSK vs SRH contest also has some interesting battles within the battle that is certain to draw a lot of eyeballs. Both SRH and CSK have some power-packed players in their line-up but none better than David Warner and MS Dhoni. Both Warner and Dhoni have been driving their teams in this season and when they face-off on Tuesday, the stalwarts of international cricket would like to outperform each other.
What do the numbers say in Dhoni vs Warner battle?
MS Dhoni: Despite batting in the middle order, Dhoni has been CSK’s highest scorer this season by some distance. He has scored 314 runs in 9 matches at a strike rate of 137.11. He almost pulled off a miracle couple of nights ago when 26 runs were needed in the last over against RCB. The CSK captain also has a good record against SRH. MS Dhoni has the 2nd best batting average(56) vs SRH in IPL (Min: 10 innings) after Yusuf Pathan Pathan (57.20). While most of the top cricketers struggle to score against Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Dhoni has maintained a stellar record against SRH’s premiere seamer. Dhoni has never got out to Bhuvi and on top of that he has a strike rate of 177.55 against him.
The only SRH bowler who can give a hard time to Dhoni is Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan. In the 22 deliveries he has bowled to Dhoni in IPL, Rashid has only given away 14 runs and also managed to get him out once.
David Warner: With 517 runs in 9 matches at a staggering average of 73.85, David Warner is the current Orange Cap holder of IPL 2019. Warner has an average strike rate of 175 against CSK’s new-ball bowlers – Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur. Warner has no troubles against the left-arm spins of Ravindra Jadeja either. The SRH opener has a strike rate of 152 against Jadeja.
Warner’s nemesis as far as CSK are concerned has been Harbhajan Singh. The veteran off-spinner has got him out thrice in the IPL and Warner only scores at a strike rate of 114 against Harbhajan. No doubt making him CSK’s biggest weapon against Warner.
