Ravichandran Ashwin has been at the centre of a big debate in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) since ‘Mankading’ Jos Buttler in Kings XI Punjab’s opening match against Rajasthan Royals.
He tried that tactic once again on Saturday when he tried to dismiss Delhi Capitals opener Shikhar Dhawan.
During the 13th over of the DC chase, Ashwin stopped mid-way through his run-up on the second delivery and looked towards Dhawan, who was looking to move out of his crease. As the spinner went back to take his run-up, Dhawan got down on one knee and looked at Ashwin.
But no one was prepared for what happened next. As Ashwin bowled the delivery to Shreyas Iyer, Dhawan mocked the KXIP skipper by suggesting that he was going out of the crease but his bat was inside all along.
Royal Challengers Bangalore pacer Dale Steyn decided to troll Ashwin after the repeated incidents.
“How good will it be to have jofra archer , Jasprit Bumrah , Kagiso Rabada , Imran Tahir and R Ashwin as your bowling attack in an ipl team ?,” a user wrote on Twitter. In reply, Steyn posted, “ Bumrah- Bowled Rabada- Caught Tahir- Lbw Ashwin- Mankad All bases covered there Pdog 🤣.”

All bases covered there Pdog 🤣
This law became famous as the ‘Mankad’ rule during India’s maiden tour to Australia in 1947 when Indian all-rounder Vinoo Mankad twice dismissed Bill Brown by removing the bails when he was outside the crease. The Australian Press slammed Mankad and that is how the name for the dismissal became famous.
