Six straight losses, best match-winner blaming the team management’s ‘bad decisions’, chances of playoff qualification becoming thin with each passing day. It’s not the ideal time to be in the Kolkata Knight Riders dressing room. After getting off to a perfect start – four wins in five matches - KKR’s IPL 2019 campaign has nosedived. Though not out of the playoff contention, they would need something miraculous to turn things around as the 12th season of IPL reaches its business end. At this juncture, they face the challenge of Mumbai Indians, who are on a real high after rising to the second spot in the IPL points table.

The only silver lining for the two-time champions is captain Dinesh Karthik’s return to form. Karthik led from the front with a career-best 97 not out the other night against Rajasthan Royals but even that wasn’t enough as a late surge from young Riyan Parag helped RR snatch a three-wicket win.

This will be KKR’s last home match of the season and the team will look to win it for the fans who have come in huge numbers and packed the stadium in every match.

A few changes can be expected when KKR takes on MI in the second match of Sunday. The success of their spinners Sunil Narine and Piyush Chawla might prompt KKR to bring back their premiere spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who has not part of the playing XI for the last two games. Kuldeep might replace left-arm medium pacer Prithvi Raj Yarra.

To balance the seam department KKR might hand debut to Australia’s Matt Kelly, who was drafted in as a replacement of Anrich Nortje. Kelly has a fantastic record in his short T20 career. He has picked up a wicket every 15.4 deliveries in the Powerplay and concedes only 7.20 runs per over; 52.8% of the 24-year-old’s deliveries in Powerplays have been dots. If Kelly comes in then Carlos Brathwaite will have to make way for him.

Kolkata Knight Riders Predicted XI: 1 Chris Lynn, 2 Sunil Narine, 3 Shubman Gill, 4 Nitish Rana, 5 Andre Russell, 6 Dinesh Karthik, 7 Rinku Singh, 8 Matt Kelly, 9 Piyush Chawla, 10 Kuldeep Yadav, 11 Prasidh Krishna
