IPL 2019: Rishabh Pant speaks about World Cup spot, reveals influence of MS Dhoni

He confesses that the World Cup squad will certainly be at the back of his mind, but then wants to focus on the job at hand and churn out a bumper season for his side, Delhi Capitals.

For young Rishabh Pant, the final two ODIs against Australia were a great opportunity to seal his spot in India’s World Cup squad as the backup wicket-keeper. However, he was not very impressive in the two games with the gloves, which has certainly put him under the spotlight in the upcoming IPL season.

He confesses that the World Cup squad will certainly be at the back of his mind, but then wants to focus on the job at hand and churn out a bumper season for his side, Delhi Capitals.

“It will always be at the back of my mind,” Pant told Cricketnext on the sidelines of an event in Delhi. “But right now, I am not focusing on that. I am too focused on the IPL and wanting to make my team win.”

He also said that he works on his game and speaks with MS Dhoni to iron out flaws from his game in order to keep improving each day.

“See, as a player I want to keep improving every day. I’ve seen a few areas in my game where I need to work on and I’ve talked about my game to Mahi bhai about that. But as a player, you need to keep improving, every match, every day,” he added.

“His (Dhoni’s) aura is totally different when he comes to the dressing room. The calmness is there, and you can talk to him about anything, any problem. That’s the kind of aura he shares with everyone, he makes you comfortable. He gives you advice, but whether you want to take it or not is your wish,” Pant said.
