IPL 2022 Auction Highlights: Ishan Kishan, Deepak Chahar, Shreyas Iyer strike it rich; Avesh Khan enters 10 cr club

Some massive names missing: Be it opting out of IPL auction, fitness concerns, or wanting to keep international cricket as a priority, there are some big names missing from the IPL 2021 auction list. 

Ben Stokes, Mitchell Starc, Chris Gayle, Kyle Jamieson, Jhye Richardson, Chris Woakes, Tom Banton, Sam Curran, Dan Christian, Joe Root, and Matt Henry to name a few.

Even though England pacer Jofra Archer will not be playing in this edition, he will still undergo the hammer as he will be available from next year onwards. He  is an invaluable asset and team would want to go for him regardless

The auction will begin with the bidding of 12 marquee players. They are: 

Shikhar Dhawan, Mohammed Shami, R Ashwin, Faf du Plessis, Shreyas Iyer, Trent Boult, Kagiso Rabada David Warner, Pat Cummins, and Quinton de Kock

After a long stint with Vivo, the cash-rich league has a new title sponsor in Tata. If you were used to saying Vivo IPL, you might have to start practicing saying Tata IPL.

Eyes on Shardul Thakur, Shreyas Iyer, and Ishan Kishan- Among all the players going into the auction, India’s youngsters in Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, and Shardul Thakur are likely to pocket the biggest amounts. Several reports claim that one of them is likely to take over as the most expensive player bought at an IPL auction. 

South Africa’s Imran Tahir is the oldest player going into the auction. He is only 43 years young.

At the other end of the spectrum is Afghanistan’s Noor Ahmad. He is only 17 years old and the left-arm leg-spinner has already played in LPL, BBL, PSL.

Left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat holds the record of being bought in the auction the most number of times. So far, he has been picked up 9 times.

K Gowtham was bought for INR 9.25 crore in 2021. Till then, Krunal Pandya remained atop the list when Mumbai Indians bought him for INR 8.8 crore in 2018

Did you know that Ex-Aussie spinner Shane Warne was the first-ever purchase in IPL auctions. In 2008, he was bought by Rajasthan Royals for $450,000 (around INR 3.3 crore in the present day)

This year, we are expecting the most expensive player to be bought for around INR 20 crore. Which team will break the bank? This is already nerve-wracking

And the leader of the pack is all-round Chris Morris, who became the most expensive IPL player in 2021 when RR bought him for a whopping INR 16.25

Delhi Capitals, known as Delhi Daredevils at the time, bagged the former India all-rounder for INR 16 crore. This was in 2015. 

4th expensive: Kyle Jamieson: In 2021, RCB secured the services of lanky New Zealand pacer for INR 15 crore. 

3rd expensive: Pat Cummins- Third in the list is Australia’s current Test captain Pat Cummins. KKR picked him up for INR 15.50 crore in 2020.

The England all-rounder was bought for INR 14.50 crore by erstwhile Rising Pune Supergiant in 2017.
