Rajasthan Royals (RR) defeated Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) by 15 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 match at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur on Tuesday. Opting to bat, Royals rode on Jos Buttler’s 58-ball 82 to post 158/8. For the visitors, Andrew Tye took a four-wicket haul. In reply, KXIP batsmen, except Rahul, couldn’t do much with the bat as they suffered their fourth loss in the tournament. Jos Buttler, the Man of the Match: “Opening is a nice change for me. Working wonders. It’s hard to work out what a good score is batting first. After six overs we thought It’ll be 180-200, but thinks slowed down. With KL Rahul batting well, there’s no safe score. You’re never quiet sure.”
Ajinkya Rahane: “Really happy, the way we played. I thought 160 was good, but wicket was difficult. Thanks to Jos that we got a good start. Chasing 157, credit to our bowlers, especially in the powerplay. That stage was crucial, getting 2-3 initial wickets. And Ish Sodhi, fantastic. Our intention was to pick wickets, and keeping an attacking field will help us. Gowtham bowled really well, and then the Ashwin wicket as well. Overall, bowling unit was fantastic.”
R Ashwin: “Maybe eight runs more than the par, but I thought it was a 160 wicket. We lost too many wickets earlier, but we could’ve bowled better in the Powerplay. As the ball was getting older, it got tougher to bat on. We were contemplating myself coming to bat at No. 3, just an experiment. We do have limitations, but we’re trying to counter it with different combinations.”

Average performance by skipper Ajinkya Rahane and below-par show from Ben Stokes and Rahul Tripathi has hurt Rajasthan Royals badly and the hosts need all these batsmen to fire.
Jofra Archer, though, has been impressive and the only saving grace for them while Jaydev Unadkat has taken just seven wickets at a poor economy rate of 9.86.
On the other hand, Kings XI Punjab are back to winning ways and would look to consolidate their position in the top-four. KXIP can even take the second place if they win tonight, provided they improve their net run-rate.
