PBKS vs CSK, IPL 2022 Highlights: Punjab Kings beat Chennai Super Kings by 11 runs, 6th loss for defending champions

Brilliant back cut from Dhawan, shortish from Chaudhary and Dhawan sends that one to the boundary as well. That takes the partnership to 52 runs off 42 balls. 

Some width from Chaudhary and Dhawan is onto it like a rash. Crunches a cover drive and the ball blazes to the boundary. PBKS 85/1 after 11.2. 

Pretorius on the money throughout the over and no boundaries off that one as well. This is turning out to be a real struggle for PBKS. 

Just four fours and two sixes so far. PBKS have been kept quiet. Rajapaksa for all his swinging and slashing has only got to 19 runs in 16 balls. Dhawan is on 27 off 23. The CSK bowlers have hardly given PBKS any width today. 

He has been swinging away merrily and has certainly increased the run rate for PBKS since coming on. Bravo gives him a stump high full toss for the fourth ball of the 10th over and Rajapaksa punishes him by slashing at it. The ball goes to the third man boundary. 

How about it, two catches dropped, both on the long side of the field where the fielders would expect the catches to come, both off Rajapaksa's bat in captain Jadeja's over. Rajapaksa with an almighty heave to deep midwicket, Santner seems to come forward at first before realising he has to stay back. The ball just bounces off his arms and falls beyond the boundary. 

PBKS 63/1 after 9 overs

Dhawan with a boundary off Pretorius off the fifth ball of the over after which the South African strayed wide with his sixth. It takes PBKS past the 50-run mark. 

Gaikwad did well to run from his right from deep backward square leg and reach the ball but could not keep it in his hands. 

Theekshana gets the breakthrough and the PBKS captain goes. He hits the ball straight to backward point and that's another start wasted for Mayank.

Dhawan with the first maximum of the innings. Offbreak turning away from off stump, Dhawan takes a big stride forward and he swings it over midwicket. 

Almost chanceless thus far from Dhawan and Agarwal except for a stray lofted shot from Dhawan that landed safely and a tight single in which Agarwal was pretty much gone if it was a direct hit. Agarwal is on 12 runs off 15 balls, Dhawan on 8 off 9. 

Agarwal with the first boundary of the match but nothing flashy from the PBKS captain. He opens his bat late and dabs it with such finnesse that short third man has absolutely no chance. 

PBKS 13/0 after 2 overs

A testimony to a great career more than anything else. Dhawan dabs Theekshana into covers to run a single and reach the milestone. Only man to get there thus far apart from Virat Kohli.

This was the 7th time in a row that Agarwal has lost the toss. Agarwal had won the toss in their first match after which he has won none of them. 

Rabada talks to the host broadcasters: “Not the first time we have collectively experienced a game of that nature, but it is just the way it goes. The only thing is the long bus drives. literally no excuses. Enough opportunity to train. There are pros and cons of playing the entire tournament in one place. We don't have to travel so much to play games, travelling can be a nightmare when you play back to back games. From my own awareness teams have won batting second. The wickets are becoming even as the tournament rolls out in terms of contest between bat and ball.”

Ravindra Jadeja: We will bowl first. We don't know if dew will come or not. Hope that dew comes in the second half. We'll look to keep things simple, we will stick to our plans, don't want to try too many things. Sometimes you lose the toss and things don't go well for us. Sometimes you might not bat or bowl well. We are going with the same team.

Mayank Agarwal: I don't really have a choice, I have lost six out of seven tosses. We don't mind having a bat first. We don't want to dwell too much about the last game, we want to move on. Thinking as a seven game tournament, it's a fresh start for us. Everyone knows what needs to be done, it's just about executing our plans. We have made three changes. Shahrukh, Ellis and Arora are out. Rajapaksa, Sandeep and Rishi Dhawan come in.

CSK win the toss, choose to bowl first. Jadeja says that he has made the decision as they don't know how much dew will come into play later in the game. CSK make no changes to their squad, PBKS, on the other hand, make three. 

Graeme Swann said that the reason why all batters except KL Rahul struggled is that the slower balls can grip pretty well. “It is not a two-paced pitch but slow balls will grip. I would love to bowl on this pitch. It's that red clay and there would be bounce if you use the breeze right. So I would expect a team maybe to bat first, you never know. 160-180 could be a good score,” he says on Star Sports.
