Muhammad Wafiq Zarbani was born on June 9, 1997, in Malaysia. Operating as a left-arm fast-medium bowler and handy right-handed lower-order batter, he progressed rapidly through the Malaysian Cricket Association age-group structures and represented the Malaysia Under-19 side before establishing himself as a core strike bowler in senior domestic and national squads.
Wafiq gained early international exposure representing Malaysia in the 2017 ICC World Cricket League Division Three tournament in Uganda. He made his official T20I debut on September 29, 2019, against Vanuatu during Vanuatu's tour of Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur. He later made his List A debut on July 28, 2022, also against Vanuatu, during the ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge League A in Canada.
Throughout his T20I career, Wafiq developed into a reliable opening and death bowler for Malaysia. A major landmark came in July 2023 during the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier B in Pandamaran, where he delivered a career-best T20I spell of 3 for 10 against Bhutan. In domestic and regional cricket, he has featured prominently for franchises such as Northern Strikers and Southern Hitters, where his tight seam movement and tactical variations consistently yielded early breakthroughs.
The year 2026 saw Wafiq play a key role across Malaysia's white-ball assignments. In May and June 2026, he helped lead the seam attack during the 2026 Asian Games Men's T20 Qualifier in Singapore, providing disciplined opening spells that helped Malaysia secure their place in the main draw. He followed this with solid performances during the bilateral series against the UAE at Bayuemas Cricket Oval. In September 2026, Wafiq represented Malaysia at the 2026 Asian Games held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
