Sudip Dipen Chatterjee, born on November 11, 1991, in Barasat, West Bengal, is a classical left-handed opening and top-order batsman who has long been one of the backbones of Bengal’s domestic batting lineup. Coming from a middle-class family as the son of a Kolkata garment retailer, he honed his wristy, elegant strokeplay across the city's Maidan club system, developing a patient red-ball temperament that relies on sound defensive judgment and smooth drives through the off side.
He broke into senior professional cricket during the 2010-11 season, gradually establishing himself as Bengal's top-order anchor across multi-day and limited-overs formats. His consistent run-scoring in first-class cricket earned him high-profile national recognition, including selections for India A’s tour of South Africa in 2017 and India Green in the 2018-19 Duleep Trophy. After a brief two-season spell representing Tripura in domestic cricket, he returned to his home state in 2024 to re-anchor Bengal's top order and mentor a younger generation of batters.
In short-format franchise cricket, Chatterjee proved his adaptability during the Bengal Pro T20 League, turning out for sides including the Harbour Diamonds, Medinipur Wizards, and Siliguri Strikers. Batting in the top order, he showcased controlled powerplay hitting, registering impact half-centuries such as a fluent 58 off 42 balls against the Howrah Warriors and 50 off 41 against the Murshidabad Kings.
His red-ball form reached new heights during the 2024-25 and 2025-26 Ranji Trophy seasons upon his return to Bengal. He produced several monumental innings, including a dominant double-century against Karnataka where he scored a career-best 209, as well as a patient 116 against Uttar Pradesh and a vital 98 against Uttar Pradesh in another encounter. Continuing his crucial top-order role into the 2026-27 Ranji Trophy opener against Delhi in October 2026, Sudip Chatterjee stood as a veteran pillar for the team.
