The veteran Pakistan pacer gave a staggering explanation in giving his verdict on the the long-standing debate as he sided with Rohit.
Virat Kohli and incumbent India captain Rohit Sharma have been two stalwarts of modern era cricket, each a genius in their own way. For long have experts and veteran cricketers, along with fans, discussed who is the better batter between the two, but the debate continues. However, veteran Pakistan pacer Sohail Khan gave a staggering explanation in giving his verdict on the the long-standing debate as he sided with Rohit.
Speaking on the ‘Nadir Ali Podcast’ show on YouTube channel, Sohail was recalling his 2015 World Cup match against India, his only ever appearance against the Men In Blue, where he had picked a career-best 5 for 55, when suddenly he shifted focus on Rohit and his batting.
Although, he hailed Kohli as a “big batsman”, he admitted that he admires the technique of Rohit from a bowler's perspective and hence considers the latter as a “far batter batsman”.
“I respect Kohli because he is very big batsman. But as bowler, I feel Rohit Sharma is a far better batsman than him. His technique is superb. He plays the ball very late, like he has all the time in the world,” he said.
When the anchor reminded him about Rohit's recent struggle in white-ball cricket, Sohail shut him saying, “He has dominated world cricket in the last 10-12 years.”
The Pakistan fast bowler, who last appeared in an international game in 2016, when further asked about who Rohit is a better batter than Kohli, he explained that the India skipper has the ability to score runs purely with his bat while the former captain uses his fitness to the best of his abilities to score runs even by running between the wickets.
“Kohli scores runs based on his fitness. If he scores one run, he is immediately ready for the next. Rohit doesn't do that. He scores one run and doesn't even try for the next. Rohit scores with his bat. Kohli scores with his bat and by running between the wickets. Again, that is a good thing because when you are that fit, you reflects automatically,” he said.
