He is one of the most charismatic characters on and off the cricket field, and former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi has been forever known as ‘Boom Boom Afridi’ for his ability to take apart opposition bowling attacks with his six-hitting skills. In fact, Afridi hit a mammoth 351 sixes in 398 ODIs and 73 sixes in 99 T20Is. While he focused mostly on playing the shorter formats of the game, Afridi did play 27 Test matches and hit 52 sixes.

During one of his interactions with fans on Twitter, Afridi revealed that the nickname ‘Boom Boom’ was given to him by none other than current India chief coach Ravi Shastri. Shastri was an established commentator before taking over the role of India coach.
But Shastri’s ongoing stint as coach and the ‘conflict of interest’ clause of the BCCI has seen him stay away from the commentary box. The Indian team is currently preparing for the fourth Test against England in Southampton. While India lost the first two Tests at Edgbaston and Lord’s, Virat Kohli and boys came back strongly in the third game at Trent Bridge and handed the hosts a 203-run defeat.
