Shakib Al Hasan, who was slated to return to Bangladesh’s Twenty20 side for the series against Sri Lanka, has hinted that he may be forced to give the series a miss as his finger injury has not fully healed.
“There is still no official statement but the doctor has told me that the injury will take another two weeks to heal. So, it is unlikely that I will play in the T20 series,” Shakib was quoted by ESPNCricinfo.
Bangladesh’s star all-rounder had picked up the injury on January 27 in Bangladesh’s tri-series final loss to Sri Lanka, which also ruled him out for the Test matches .
Bangladesh will host Sri Lanka in the first Twenty20 International on February 15 had released their 15-man squad for the series on Saturday. The list that named Shakib as their captain also included five uncapped players.
Shakib’s probable absence will be a huge blow for the home team that have beaten Sri Lanka only once in their five matches this year, including three 50-over games and two Test matches.
