Amla, once regarded as a Test specialist, has built up an impressive record in 50-over one-day internationals this year.

He will be playing only his third match in the shortest form of the international game.

The match, to be played at Durban's Moses Mabhida football stadium, will be the final international appearance of fast bowler Makhaya Ntini, who announced his retirement earlier in the season.

Andrew Hudson, convenor of selectors, said Jacques Kallis, Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel were being rested ahead of a five-match one-day international series against India and the World Cup later in the season.

South Africa squad: Johan Botha (capt), Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Colin Ingram, David Miller, Makhaya Ntini, Wayne Parnell, Robin Peterson, Graeme Smith, Rusty Theron, Lonwabo Tsotsobe
