While there was talk of him inaugurating a pavilion in Hyderabad named after him with skipper MS Dhoni as the chief guest, it didn't happen. Although the Hyderabad association was geared up, the freshly retired Laxman couldn't turn up for some reason or the other.

However, here during the interval, former mates Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid and Javagal Srinath felicitated him.

Laxman had announced his retirement in a hurry before the series and that led to speculation that all is not well between him and Dhoni. The two have, however, denied any rift.

"I would have liked to play (in these Tests) but I think it is an opportunity for the youngsters to prepare themselves with this series against New Zealand for bigger tests ahead (India play Australia and England at home next)," he said.

Former batting great GR Viswanath handed over the momento in the brief function attended by just the support staff of Team India.
