The second one-dayer against South Africa at the Wanderers here, was Tendulkar's 444th match, the same as Sri Lankan legend Jayasuriya's.

In a career during which he rewrote almost every major batting record, the 37-year-old recently became the first batsman in the history of Test cricket to score 50 centuries in the longer format of the game.

He followed his landmark ton in the first Test against South Africa in Centurion with another in the third game in Cape Town to take his tally to 51.

Tendulkar also holds records for the most Test appearances (177), and the most Test runs.

In one-day internationals, Tendulkar has more than 17,000 runs -- over 4,000 more than second-placed Jayasuriya -- and has hit 17 more ODI centuries (46) than his nearest rival, Ricky Ponting of Australia.

Tendulkar is also the only player to score a double hundred in ODIs.
