Through his career, and especially as skipper, he has rarely missed a game owing to injury. In 2010, during the Test series in Bangladesh, he had to pull out of the first Test in Chittagong due to a back spasm. Ditto at Napier in 2009 when Virender Sehwag was stand-in skipper.
Since taking charge as ODI captain in September 2007, he has missed just 22 matches, none due to injury. Between 2010 and 2011, he was rested in a tri-series in Zimbabwe and three one-day series against West Indies and New Zealand. He missed three ODIs due to ban. Dhoni has missed only three IPL games due to injury. All of them were in 2010.
