Former Indian cricketer and commentator Virender Sehwag recently shared a photograph with some of the stars of the Indian women’s cricket team that reached the final of the ICC World Cup 2017 in England last month.

India women’s captain Mithali Raj had declared that the primary target of her side was to at least make it to the semifinals of the tournament.

Her team not only achieved what it had aimed to but even stormed into the final, beating perhaps the toughest side in the tournament , Australia.

On Friday, Virender Sehwag took to Twitter to share his delight on meeting some of these champions. He wrote, “What a joy and pleasure to meet these wonderful girls who make us so proud. @ImHarmanpreet , @vedakmurthy08 Jhulan, Ekta,Poonam & Rajeshwari.” (sic)

India women lost to England narrowly in the final, and despite tripping over the final hurdle, they were given a heroes’ welcome at home.

Mithali Raj became the leading run-scorer in women’s ODIs by breaching the 6,000-run mark for the first time ever, and the young Smriti Mandhana produced scintillating knocks at the start of India’s campaign to set the tone for her side.

The venerable Jhulan Goswami was at her best once again, and it was Harmanpreet Kaur’s fabulous 171 not out against Australia women in the semifinal that hogged most of the limelight.
