Australia had a fine start to their innings in the third and final ODI of the series against India in Chennai. The opening duo of Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh added 68 runs for the first wicket as Hardik Pandya got the opening breakthrough, dismissing Head on 33. However, merely a couple of deliveries before the dismissal, Head had actually received a lifeline when Shubman Gill's valiant effort went in vain; the India youngster dropped his catch at deep square leg.

Head ad pulled a short delivery from Pandya and even as Shubman made an impressive run to deep square leg, he eventually fell short; the India star attempted a dive forward but failed to grab hold of the delivery, as the ball raced towards the boundary for a four.

However, as luck would have it, Pandya eventually dismissed Head off the fifth delivery of his over; this time, Head cut it towards third man and Kuldeep Yadav, who was standing at the exact spot, made no mistake in judging the catch.

In his very next over, Pandya also dismissed captain Steve Smith on a duck, bringing India back in the game after Australia's solid start.

Earlier, Australia had won the toss and opted to bat in Chennai. India have taken the field with the same XI that faced a humiliating 10-wicket loss against Australia in the second ODI in Visakhapatnam.

“We were looking to field first. It's an important game and the deciders are always interesting. It's always good to put us in this situation. It's a challenge for us to come back and play some good cricket under pressure. Hopefully we can put our best foot forward,” Rohit Sharma had said at the toss.

This will be India's final outing before the players join their respective franchises for the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League, that begins on March 31.
