Watch: Kohli bursts into standing ovation, Rohit impressed after Shubman Gill's glorious four vs Starc in 3rd ODI
Shubman Gill looked in great touch during his brief stay at the crease in the third and final ODI of the series against Australia on Wednesday.
Team India faced a disappointing defeat against Australia in the third and final ODI of the series on Wednesday, conceding a first bilateral ODI series defeat at home since March 2019. Interestingly, it were Australia who had beaten India at home the last time as well. Batting first, Australia posted 269 on the board and even as the hosts had a good start to their innings, Rohit Sharma's men eventually faltered in the run-chase as they were bowled out for 248 with five balls remaining in the match.

The hosts did improve significantly on their batting performance from the previous game, where India were folded for merely 117. Captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill forged a 65-run partnership for the first wicket and the latter showed his class with some exceptional shots during his brief stay at the crease.
During the fifth over of the Indian innings, however, Shubman produced a fine display of aggression against lethal fast bowler Mitchell Starc, as he smashed two successive boundaries against the Aussie pacer. The second boundary of the over, in particular, was so glorious that India star Virat Kohli couldn't resist getting up from his seat and applauding the youngster. Rohit, who was batting with Shubman, also had an impressed look on his face as he cheered for the young batter.
Watch:
After a strong start, Rohit (30) and Shubman (37) fell in quick succession; KL Rahul (32) forged a 69-run stand alongside Virat Kohli (54) but things went downhill rather quickly following the dismissal of Rahul. India lost Axar Patel (2), Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav (0) in quick succession and eventually failed to chase down the target even as all-rounder Hardik Pandya (40) held one end alongside the tailenders.
India had won the first match of the series after facing a top-order collapse in the run-chase, as Rahul had remained unbeaten on 75, while Jadeja scored 45* to chase down a 180-run target. The series was India's last bit of action before the players join their respective franchises for the 2023 Indian Premier League, that begins on March 31.
