A leopard was rescued by forest staff after it was trapped in a cemented manhole for hours in Birpur area at Garhi Cantt on Sunday.
Locals said the leopard probably got trapped on Saturday night but was spotted on Sunday morning when people heard a roar.
They informed the forest department in the morning but the rescue team came in the afternoon. The leopard was tranquilised in the third attempt and rescued.
In another incident, a leopard was found dead in the Kota range close to Corbett Tiger Reserve (CTR) on Saturday. Dr Dushyant Kumar, veterinarian at CTR, said the injury marks found on the body of the leopard suggested that it could have been killed in a territorial war with a tiger.
The doctor, who performed the postmortem, said the age of the leopard was around 10-12 years. The leopard’s body was spotted on Saturday when some women looking for fodder saw it.
