Shaurya Doval, son of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, has indicated his entry into active politics from Uttarakhand, his native place.

The junior Doval participated as a member in Uttarakhand BJP’s working member committee last week. His attendance at the December 16-17 meeting held in Haldwani came to fore courtesy the selfies that several top state leaders clicked with him.

Sources in the party say the entry of Doval — among the principal drivers of BJP-RSS led think tank India Foundation —into the party from the mountain state is a well thought out strategy. “Shaurya could have easily become a member from anywhere, including Delhi. But, it seems there is a clear-cut strategy of BJP central leadership in introducing him from Uttarakhand,” a senior BJP leader, who was not willing to be named, said.

“The hill state may have many leaders, seasoned and of national repute, but Shaurya’s entry gives clear indication that he is being introduced for a bigger responsibility in the state,” he added.

Shaurya, an alumnus of London School of Business and Chicago University, has worked as an investment banker and played a key role during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to America in 2014-15 where he met foreign investors.

State BJP leaders did not rule out Shaurya contesting from Pauri seat in 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the seat currently represented by former chief minister BC Khanduri.

The Doval family is a native of Pauri district and Sahurya is quite familiar with the issues of the hills, a leader said.

Party leaders believe that the lack of strong leadership in the saffron party in Uttarakhand could be a reason behind this decision. “The central leadership knows that there is infighting among local leaders and Shaurya can be a unifying factor considering his family is close to party’s top leadership,” a senior party leader said.

Shaurya was first spotted campaigning for Satpal Maharaj during assembly election held this year. Later he also participated in Raibaar, the state foundation programme led by chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat. His participation in the BJP working committee meeting was his third public presence in the mountain state.

BJP state president Ajay Bhatt could not stop praising junior Doval. “His financial analysis is spotless due to which I requested him to be a part of a team, which sits in Delhi and discusses our state level issues. He belongs to our state and is also a part of our state team now,” he said.
