By making a tactical change in its communication mode, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing irregularities in teachers’ appointment in Uttarakhand on Saturday nailed two more persons who acquired teaching jobs using fake B.Ed degrees, an SIT official said.

Including the two latest cases, the SIT in the past one year found 37 government teachers resorted to the dubious means to get the jobs.

The exposure came after the SIT decided to serve an email notice to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University seeking explanation on its conflicting response on the educational status of two teachers under its scanner.

The SIT had earlier sent manual letters to the university asking it to confirm whether Ambrish Kumar and Kumari Gayatri had cleared educational courses there.

The university responded to the query both in affirmative and negative, which led the team to believe that someone within the university has nexus with the teachers.

“We realised that someone in the university having nexus with the teachers are sending us the wrong information on the official letter head. So, we changed our strategy and started using internet for communication to prevent leakage of communication,” Shweta Chaubey, the SIT incharge, said.

After it sent the queries on e-mail, the team was informed that both Ambrish and Gayatri serving government schools in Dehradun and Pauri respectively have used fake bachelor of education degrees registered on someone else’s names in the university records to get the teaching jobs.

“The actual degrees belong to someone else. They simply cloned the degrees and changed their whereabouts and got the jobs,” Chaubey added.

Most of the irregularities unearthed by the SIT so far are from Haridwar, US Nagar, Nainital and Dehradun. While 33 of the “fake teachers” are facing legal charges, two have been recommended for departmental inquiry. The SIT forwarded the latest two cases to the school education department for further action.

The director general (DG) of the school education department had earlier given approval to file a legal case against one of the teachers in Haridwar.

Giving details of the case, Chaubey said one Anil Kumar joined as an assistant government teacher in 2009 in a government primary school in Laksar, Roorkee. He submitted fake domicile documents of another person, a resident of BHEL, Haridwar. And he also submitted fake caste certificate issued in 2004 to get the job.

“We had recommended departmental inquiry on the matter last month. But, the department has asked us to take legal action over the matter,” Chaubey said.
