A woman murdered her 21-year-old stepdaughter at Ansari Marg here, chopped her body into pieces and kept them in a sack in her own room, police said on Friday.
Police claimed that the murder was related to property but the stepmother said she killed Prapti Singh as she was fed up with boys visiting her.
On February 8, Monu Kaur, the stepmother, filed a report at Patel Nagar police station, saying her daughter was missing. She told the police that Prapti had gone to Delhi for an interview but she could not be contacted after that.
The police investigation found Monu’s story as baseless. She told police that she had dropped Prapti at ISBT, but they found the last location of her mobile near her residence. Suspecting Monu, police arrested her; she confessed to her crime after a little pressure.
Inspector Ritesh Shah said, “The mother confessed that she was fed up with boys visiting her daughter, thus suggesting that it was a honour killing. But, we believe the crime was committed because of property.”
Monu told the police that she killed the girl with a sharp instrument. She then chopped her to pieces, put the parts in a sack and kept it in the girl’s bedroom.
Prapti’s father, who was a property dealer, died about 18 months ago. She was the only child.
The girl was pursuing air hostess course from a private institute. The police suspect involvement of a few others in the crime.
