“We plan to popularise the region as a major tourist destination through films worldwide. So, we won’t charge fees from filmmakers shooting their films here,” Rawat said while speaking at a function held in New Tehri on Friday. It was organised to celebrate the first shot of a film titled ‘Bijli Gul Metre Chalu’. The feature film that stars Shahid Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor as its lead pair will be mainly shot in Tehri Lake and its adjoining areas.

Rawat said the central Himalayan region (Uttarakhand) has a number of beautiful locales dotting it. “So, it is ideally suited for shooting of films,” he said, adding that shooting films here will not only popularise it but also boost employment opportunities for locals.
