The Delhi court Tuesday allowed a plea by Delhi chief minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, along with two other party leaders, seeking exemption from appearing before it in a defamation case and adjourned the matter till June 7.

Additional chief metropolitan magistrate Samar Vishal on March 15 had directed Kejriwal, Rajya Sabha member Sushil Kumar Gupta, MLA Manoj Kumar and AAP candidate from East Delhi Atishi, to appear before the court on April 30 in a defamation complaint filed by BJP leader Rajiv Babbar over the Delhi CM’s comment on deletion of over 30 lakh names from the voters’ list in Delhi.

While Kejriwal, Atishi and Gupta moved an exemption application through their counsel Mohd Irshad, as they are busy with the Lok Sabha election campaign in Delhi and Haryana. The summons to Kumar could not be served. Babbar, who had moved the application on behalf of BJP’s Delhi unit, sought action against the AAP leaders for alleging that over 30 lakh names were deleted from the voters’ list by the election commission at the behest of the BJP.
