The 20-year-old woman who was allegedly raped and thrown off the fourth floor of an under-construction building at Begampur in outer Delhi is still battling for her life, doctors said.
“The victim is still on life support. Her condition has improved marginally, but she is still not out of danger. A team of doctors, including those from gynaecology and neurosurgery departments, are monitoring and treating her,” said Dr Puneeta Mahajan, medical director of Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital in Rohini.
Police have arrested a 24-year-old man, who works at a five-star hotel, for allegedly raping the victim and pushing her off the building. The victim works as an assistant chef at another city five-star hotel. The incident took place around 11pm on August 10.
According to police, the woman had gone out with the accused, and two other friends. The four were travelling on one bike and were intercepted by police at Punjabi Bagh. Their bike was seized as they did not have valid documents and the four then took an autorickshaw.
On reaching Begampur, the accused told the other couple that he was going to get his father’s car and took the woman with him. He, however, led her to an under-construction building while the two friends waited in the autorickshaw.
Police claimed the man sexually assaulted the victim and pushed her off the fourth floor when she tried to raise an alarm. Locals, however, raised an alarm when they found the woman lying in a pool of blood in a semi-clad state.
“Police are yet to record the victim’s statements as her condition is still critical. She has suffered severe head injuries,” said Dr Mahajan.
