Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has reinstated Okhla member of legislative assembly (MLA), Amanatullah Khan, who was suspended in May this year after his tirade against party’s founder member Kumar Vishwas.
“I got a call from senior party leader Ashutosh on Sunday night who informed me that I have been reinstated in the party,” Khan said.
Khan had sparked a controversy after the party’s poor performance in Delhi municipal polls in April, by accusing Vishwas of being an “RSS-BJP agent” and plotting a coup in the party. On May 3, 2017, the Political Affairs Committee meeting of the party decided to suspend Khan till further enquiry by a disciplinary committee.
A three-member committee constituted to find why Khan made the allegations against Vishwas, comprised of party leaders, Pankaj Gupta, Atishi Marlena and Ashutosh . “He has been reinstated after due process of investigation by the disciplinary committee,” said a party spokesperson.
“It may have something to do with Rajya Sabha elections in January or the momentum that AAP has generated in Rajasthan,” said Vishwas, who is the party incharge in Rajasthan.
Days after the suspension, Manish Sisodia had met Khan at the latter’s residence, and Khan was made member of six Delhi Assembly committees, set up by the speaker of the house. The move, perhaps, was to placate the Muslim face of the party.
