The Delhi Police on Wednesday said they had arrested three men for their alleged involvement in several cases of burglary and auto thefts reported from across different parts of the city.

One of them was caught red-handed when he had entered a house in south Delhi’s Saurabh Vihar near Jaitpur to commit a burglary, police said.

Confirming the arrests, Chinmoy Biswal, deputy commissioner of police (southeast), said 14 burglary, vehicle theft as well as cases registered under the Arms Act were solved with the arrested of Jai Prakash (21), Bunty Prasad (33) and Vikas Sharma (24). A countrymade pistol, a knife and six stolen motorcycles and scooters were recovered from the possession of the accused, he said.

“While Prasad is involved in 23 cases, Sharma has seven cases registered against him. The Haryana Police has also announced Sharma a proclaimed offender. The two met each other while in a jail a few months ago,” he said.

On August 19, Biswal said, the Badarpur police received a call regarding a thief who was caught by the public in Saurabh Vihar area. A police team reached and took the thief, Jai Prakash, into their custody.

The complainant, Subhash Thakur, told police that three men had entered his home and stolen cash and valuables.

“Some stolen items and R 2,000 were seized from Prakash. His interrogation led to the arrest of Prasad and Sharma the next day while they were riding a stolen motorcycle in Badarpur area. The two were carrying a pistol and a knife,” added the DCP.
