A 22-year-old woman from Nepal, who was allegedly raped by at least 30 people over the past five months after she was sold to a brothel at GB Road in Delhi, managed to escape and lodge a FIR.
Based on the complaint, Delhi Police, Delhi Commission for Women and a NGO conducted a joint raid in the brothel on Saturday and arrested a woman, who allegedly forced the victim into prostitution.
According to the DCW, a woman approached the victim, Pinki (name changed), in Nepal and offered her with a job in Dubai. She was, however, trafficked to India and sold to a brothel at GB Road.
“She was allegedly assaulted, kept hungry for several days and forced to sleep with around 30 customers over the past five months,” said Bhupinder Singh, media advisor of DCW.
Pinki told DCW officials that a few days ago a rumour spread in the brothel that police could be raiding the place. The women were being shifted to a secure location by the brothel owners. She managed to escape taking advantage of the melee.
After her escape, the victim got in touch with some person from east Delhi whom she used to know .
Meanwhile, an NGO working on human trafficking was tipped off about this incident. The NGO traced the girl and sought the help of DCW to register a police complaint.
The DCW swung into action and helped the victim lodge a complaint against the woman who forced her into prostitution. The woman was arrested on the basis of the victim’s complaint.
“This is the modus operandi of traffickers who work on GB Road. They lure women from small cities and neighbouring countries by promising jobs. The women are however sold to brothels and forced into prostitution once they land in Delhi,” said Swati Maliwal, DCW chairperson.
