NEW DELHI: A young woman who had recently rented an apartment in Neb Sarai in south Delhi was found dead. Her neck was slit and there were multiple cuts on the face .

Police suspect a jilted lover to be behind the murder. Investigating officers said the 22-year-old woman, Arti, was found dead inside her rented house in Neb Sarai. The woman, police said, worked at a beauty parlour and had taken the flat on rent with her friend.

The incident came to light around 4.35am when a neighbour saw blood flowing out of the house. The neighbour informed the police.

The police team broke open the door and found the woman lying on the floor.

“There was blood all over and a blade was lying beside her. She had cuts on her face, arms and a five-inch deep slit wound on her neck. It appears she was first attacked with a blade and then her throat was slit with a sharp knife or cutter,” a senior police officer said.

“There were resistance marks on her body and on the wall which shows she had a scuffle with the killer. The house was also ransacked but nothing was missing from the house. Her body has been sent for a postmortem examination and a case of murder has been registered,” he added.

The police have also recovered empty bottles of alcohol from the flat. The investigators suspect a jilted lover to be behind the murder. Locals told the police that a man used to visit Arti frequently.
