NEW DELHI: Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University increased its annual fees by 75% this academic session. There are 11 University Schools of Studies (USS) under the university, in which around 5,000 students are enrolled.

This is the first time since 201112 that the fee has been revised. Students enrolled this year will have to pay Rs 70,000 instead of Rs 40,000.
“Revised fee structures for affiliated institutes are available on our websites, www.ipu.ac.in and www.ipuadmissions.nic.in,” said the university.
Officials said the board of management (BOM) approved the decision to revise the fee in June. The admission fee that the self-financing institutes charged has also been revised, based on the recommendations of the Delhi Fee Regulatory Committee.
“Fee has been hiked by around 20-25% in private affiliated institutes,” an official said. The Directorate of Higher Education has issued a notification to 74 affiliated institutes.
The proposed fee for M CA at the Banarsidas Chandiwala Institute of Hotel Management & Catering Technology is Rs 1,20,000, up from Rs 96,600. At Amity School of Engineering and Technology, the proposed fee for B.Tech has been raised from Rs 69,000 to Rs 81,500.
Officials said if any affiliated institute charged more money than what was notified, action would be taken.
“Some students and parents informed the university that some affiliated institutes are charging more than the notified fee. They are seeking this money in the name of revised fee structures. The university will act against them,” said officials.
The Delhi government constituted a State Fee Regulatory Committee in February 2013 to determine fee in private institutions in Delhi.
In March, a protest by the students of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University forced the Delhi government to roll back a fee hike.
Students of various colleges had protested outside Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence, demanding that the fee hike be withdrawn. Soon, Kejriwal tweeted he will ensure the fee is not raised.
