NEW DELHI: The Delhi government on Monday decided to accord ‘martyr’ status to Mohammed Moin Khan, the legal adviser of New Delhi Municipal Council, who was murdered for allegedly refusing to take bribe from a hotel owner.

The hotelier allegedly wanted help in getting the lease of his hotel renewed.
A similar resolution was also passed in the Delhi Assembly. Khan’s family members, including his two daughters, who were present in the House during the discussion broke down repeatedly as the chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and other AAP legislators spoke over the issue.
Demanding a fair probe in the Kejriwal alleged that a person related to the murder of MM Khan was being shielded due to his “proximity” to a Union minister.
“Police have no courage to call him as he is friends with Home Minister Rajnath Singh. Fair probe is not being done in the case… Had the police been with us, the killers would have reached the gallows. I am not saying the individual is accused but at least call the person concerned,” Kejriwal said.
Other AAP legislators, however, demanded that the police probe the role of former BJP MLA and vice chairperson of NDMC, Karan Singh Tanwar.
