Police said the PCR call was made at around 10:30 pm.

The accused robbers allegedly looted Rs 4 lakh from the store at gunpoint. Two employees of the store were also injured. Ajay Singh was a resident of Ashok Vihar.

The CCTV camera at the store was not working at that time of the incident.

Police said the incident happened opposite Swarn Cinema in Krishna Nagar after the store closed for the day.

“The accused approached one of the employees, Kamal Kumar, who was standing outside to guard the shop. They asked for liquor, tried to bribe him and assaulted him and another employee Sandeep. Then, they whipped out their guns, and threatening to shoot Kumar, barged into the store and asked for the cash,” said a senior police officer.

The police said the accused took away Rs 4 lakh from the cashier. The deceased, Ajay Singh, was responsible for collecting the money at night and delivering it to the owner, Rajesh Oberoi. When Dal Chand, one of the helps at the shop, protested, the assailants reportedly smashed a beer bottle on his head.

Police said one of the assailants warned the staff against following them and, as a warning, fired once at the ceiling and then at Singh.

Vikas Kumar, the store manager, said, “The hard disk of the CCTV camera is corrupt and does not record. They took an innocent man’s life for no reason.”

Singh was rushed to Hedgewar Hospital, where he was declared brought dead. Dal Chand was discharged after treatment on Wednesday.

The police have registered a case of dacoity.
