A 16-year-old girl committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan in her south Delhi house Wednesday.

A 16-year-old girl committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan in her south Delhi house Wednesday. Her mother said she had been depressed after her teacher scolded her over poor performance in studies.

Himanshi Chaudhary, a Class 12 student, was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her Dakshinpuri house around 8 a.m. Her mother Santosh, who works as a domestic help, discovered the body and informed the police.

"No suicide note was recovered from the victim. Her mother said that she was depressed because her teacher had scolded her over poor performance and then she took her own life," a police officer said.

Alpana, a teacher at the government school Himanshi studied in, told the police that the girl had failed in two subjects and her mother had been called to school.

"She was asked to take her studies seriously or else leave the school. She was tense after that," Alpana told police.
