22-year-old man sets himself on fire, dies

A 22-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by setting himself ablaze on the tracks of the Old Delhi railway station on Saturday morning.

A 22-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by setting himself ablaze on the tracks of the Old Delhi railway station on Saturday morning.

The police said that they have not been able to identify the victim as the body is completely charred and no identification card was recovered from the seen.

According to the police, the victim went on the railway tracks near Lahori Gate area and then doused himself with kerosene. He then set himself on fire. The incident was reported at 11.30 am. The police added that no suicide note was recovered from the spot.

“People saw the man burning and called the PCR. The railway police reacted to the call and by the time they reached the man was almost completely charred,” said a senior police officer on the condition of anonymity, as he is not authorised to speak to the media.

The man was rushed to Lok Nayak Hospital where he was declared brought dead.

All police stations in Delhi and other areas have been informed in the hope of identifying the victim. A case has been registered in the matter.
