A city court on Wednesday sentenced three people to life imprisonment for murdering a Congress leader near his South Extension residence five years ago.

Additional Session Judge SK Sarvaria sentenced Suresh Pehelwan, Sushil Chaudhary and Dilip after finding them guilty and finding that the prosecution had proved their case “beyond reasonable doubt”.
According to the prosecution, Sushil first fired twice at the victim and later Suresh stabbed him nearly 16 times.
Surender Gupta was chairman of the Congress Seva Dal and a businessman. Sushil, Suresh and Dalip, who were armed, forced the victim to come out of his car near his house around noon on May 31 2003.
It had alleged Dilip held Gupta when he was being stabbed. The prosecution examined 26 people, including three eyewitnesses.
