Metropolitan Magistrate Sudesh Kumar sent them to judicial cusotdy till July eight.

The accused and others had resorted to violent protests after MCD announced its decision to strike off 799 library employees from its roll saying the appointments were "illegal".

The sacked employees allegedly ransacked the Mayor's office and pelted stones at the Town Hall, a heritage building at Chandni Chowk in New Delhi.

The trouble had started soon after Mayor Kunwar Sen announced the sacking of 799 employees of Hardyal Municipal Public Library, considering a retired judge's report which suggested that the appointments made by the previous Congress dispensation was "illegal and void".

These employees, who were appointed between April 1, 2006 and June 7, 2007, were not getting salary since their appointment.

They have been booked under various provisons of the IPC, dealing with rioting and damaging public properties.
