The accused, identified as Akhtar Ansari, used to contact people either through cell phones or on Facebook. So far, the Delhi Police have received 465 complaints, with more pouring in.

“Ansari had created a website called ‘Anjak Overseas’ which stated that ‘our family has been a major business group in British Colombia for 30 years’. On the website, he had given names of various companies and used to lure those who were not aware of such type of financial scams,” said Ajay Chaudhry, additional CP (south east).

On inquiry from different government agencies, it has been found that companies listed on Anjak Overseas’ website had never done any kind of business.

“The company had roped in as many as 4,000 clients from several parts of the country by giving false allurements and inducements and duped people of a huge sum of Rs 3.5 crore,” Chaudhry added. They used to invite people to lavish parties for promotion of their company at different hotels.

Ansari used to change his office frequently to avoid queries of investors. The police have recovered two bags of banks statements, tree chart of investors, cheque books of various bank accounts and ATM cards.
