The door of hope is still left ajar in a few Delhi University colleges. While a majority of institutions gear up to kick-start the new academic year on Wednesday, some have still not been able to wrap up the general category admission in select few courses and have issued a fifth cut-off list for the same.

Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College (DDU), Satyawati (Day) College, Shaheed Rajguru College of Applied Sciences for Women, Ramjas College and Hindu College are among the institutions, which have seats vacant in some courses.

“A few students of History (H) had cancelled their admission at the last moment. We are looking at absorbing only three to four more students in this course. For this reason, we have brought down the cut-off for the general category by only .5 per cent,” said D.N. Gupta, convenor (admission), Hindu College. Admission to History (H) in Hindu is open till July 17.

Though Ramjas College has not issued a fifth list yet, admission in-charge, K.S. Verma informed the college will bring down the qualifying marks after the admission committee meeting on July 17 to fill up vacant seats in Economics (H), English (H), B.Com (Programme) and B.Sc (H) Mathematics.

DDU is still open for admission to B. Sc. (H) Physics, B.Sc. (H) Electronics and B.Sc. (H) Mathematics at the same cut-off as in the fourth list. It has reduced the qualifying marks for B.Sc. Physical Science and B.Sc. Life Science by 3 and 2 per cent, respectively. Admission is open till July 17.

SC/ST applicants

Delhi University has decided to allow both Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) students to reapply to colleges as per the seats available there. Close to 16 ST candidates reapplied on Tuesday, the first day of ST counselling at the Arts Faculty.

“The students were given a pamphlet that provided information about the vacant ST seats in different colleges. All candidates, including the ones who had already taken admission, were allowed to fill in fresh college and course preference according to the seat availability,” said Suman Kumar Verma, Joint dean, Students’ Welfare, DU.

The same exercise will be repeated for SC applicants on July 25, 26 and 28. The application form is available at the Arts Faculty and seats will be allotted on merit basis.
