The daylight attack took place while Col (retd) SK Mahajan was out shopping with his wife.

Mahajan told the Hindustan Times that he and his wife went from his Friends Colony home in their car to shop at the furniture market in Amar Colony.

“I was parking my car opposite the furniture market when a man driving a Ford Fiesta asked me to move my car forward and give passage to his vehicle. Though there was not enough space on the road, I moved my car some inches forward. After moving my car forward, I told him to move his car but he did not pay attention and demanded more passage,” said the retired colonel.

The car driver pulled him out of his car and assaulted him as his wife looked on.

“Being an old man and a law-abiding citizen, I tried to pacify him, but in vain. He not only assaulted me physically, but also verbally abused me and used filthy language. When some onlookers tried to stop him, he threatened them with dire consequences. He threatened to hit me with a rod also,” Mahajan said, adding he had some scratch marks on his face and neck.

The attacker, who was with his wife and mother, fled the spot only after a call was made to the police control room about the matter. Efforts are on to nab him, said a police officer.

On the basis of a complaint lodged by Mahajan, a case under Sections 341 (wrongful restrain), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code was registered against unknown persons in Amar Colony.

Mahajan, a war veteran had taken part in the 1965 and 1971 wars and won gallantry awards. He is also the son of the third Chief Justice of India.
