A Hiroshima on Indian roads every year: Derek O’Brien

“Sadly, we are creating one Hiroshima on the Indian roads every year. Almost 135,000 people died in Hiroshima and India has a dubious world record now that we lose about 135,000 people on the roads of India due to accidents,” he said during the Zero Hour.
He said a large number of people lost their lives mainly because of lack of proper road infrastructure.
“The UPA government had made a grandiose announcement of constructing 35,000 km of roads -- 19 km a day. However the rate of construction is in single digit.”
He blamed the cash crunch for the poor pace of roads construction. “Recently an infrastructure firm had announced its exit from R7,500 crore Kishangarh-Udaipur-Ahmedabad project,” Brien said.
