Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers protested at the Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Monday, demanding the resignation of four ministers of the Bharatiya Janata Party for allegedly being linked to various scams.

As the AAP workers tried to march towards the Parliament, security forces disrupted the protest near Parliament Street police station. Some of the protestors scuffled with policemen.

The protesters gathered at the Jantar Mantar at 10am and demanded action by the BJP against external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj, human resource minister Smriti Irani, Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje and Maharashtra minister Pankaja Munde.

The AAP demanded the ouster of Irani for allegedly providing false information about her educational qualifications in affidavits submitted to the Election Commission.

The protestors also demanded that Swaraj and Raje should quit for their alleged "impropriety" in providing assistance to former Indian Premier League chief Lalit Modi.

The AAP’s women's wing joined the protest, demanding the resignation of Maharashtra's rural development minister Munde over her alleged involvement in a scam related to the purchase of items for state-run schools.

The protestors also questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on the allegations against the BJP leaders.

“The BJP is not doing anything. (BJP president) Amit Shah must clarify and act on it,” one of the protesters said.

“The PM should have openly spoken about Smriti Irani and Sushma Swaraj. His silence will not be accepted,” another protester said.

AAP’s Delhi convener Dilip Pandey, who led the protesters, shouted slogans against the BJP and Munde for her alleged involvement in a “Rs 200-crore scam”.

Pandey attacked Prime Minister Modi, saying he was silent as leaders like Raje put up a show of strength by rallying “110 MLAs behind her”. He said, “The country does not want to talk about Prime Minister’s ‘Mann ki baat’.”

The opposition has been mounting pressure on Raje after the emergence of an affidavit with her signature, in which she backs Lalit Modi's British immigration appeal.

Meanwhile, a Delhi court has agreed to hear a complaint against union minister Smriti Irani over her educational qualifications.
