The temperature plummeted to 7.4 deg Celsius, the lowest this season. The maximum temperature was at 22.2 degrees Celsius, near normal.

The weatherman has predicted a cold wave for most of North India. A cold wave is when the temperature is at least five degrees below normal.

“Due to snowfall in the hills and the effect of a Western Disturbance, temperatures are decreasing all over Northern India.

We expect this to continue through the week,” said a senior official at the India Meteorological Department.

For the first time this season, dry and cold northwesterly winds have also started blowing quite steadily, which is the textbook condition for below-normal temperatures to set in, said O.P. Sharma, chief meteorologist at SkyMet, a private weather information provider.
